The Brick Store Museum worked with ChemArt, creators of the annual White House Christmas ornaments, to create a series of ornaments unique to the history of Kennebunk. Each ornament features a piece of Kennebunk’s history with a short story of the ornament and its meaning.
The Collectible Heritage Ornament Series includes:
Ship Mt. Washington: This Kennebunk-built ship traveled the world in the mid-19th century and returned with many stories to tell. It was built in a shipyard on Summer Street, and owned by multiple people living in Kennebunk in the 1840s, and traveled to far-off places like Russia!
The West Kennebunk Fire Engine: This 19th century ladder truck now sits in the Museum’s artifact collections. This miniature version features its black and red colors!
William Barry’s Rocking Horse: This leather rocking horse, now in the Museum’s collection, was one of the first toys Kennebunk native William Barry received as a gift when he was growing up in 1850.
Kennebunk Beach: images of Kennebunk Beach’s unique features and history of tourism and hotels are featured prominently on this shell-styled ornament.
Shipbuilding in the Kennebunks: History of Kennebunk’s shipbuilding prowess is displayed on this four-pointed ornament featuring historical images in the Museum’s archives.
All ornaments are three-dimensional and 24 karat gold plated in a keepsake gift box.
