From April through November 2026, the Brick Store Museum will present a rotating exhibit series, Maine by Hand: Contemporary Craft in York County as part of Handwork: Celebrating American Craft 2026, a nationwide semiquincentennial initiative honoring the role of the handmade in American life. Spanning five craft traditions — ceramics, woodworking, metalworking, glass and weaving and fiber arts — the series highlights the skill and creativity found in the handmade.

Each installment explores a distinct craft discipline, at times examining both historical examples and contemporary practice. By showcasing the artists and artisans behind these works, the Brick Store Museum honors the enduring importance of craft and the handmade during the nation’s semiquincentennial.
