DESCRIPTION:JOIN US to explore the changing experience of public and private grief in society over the past 200 years with Professor Libby Bischof (USM). Using local archives and artifacts\, she will lead us in engaging discussion of the history of grief and mourning and what it means to each of one us over time. DESCRIPTION:The Brick Store Museum’s annual Holiday Candlelight Stroll explores the stories and traditions of Kennebunk’s immigrant families in the 19th and 20th centuries. \nThe program runs on Saturday\, December 10 and Sunday\, December 11\, featuring vignettes of each family as participants tour through the Museum spaces.  Tours conclude in the Museum’s Program Center with holiday treats\, activities and live fiddle music by Paul and Sally Wells. DESCRIPTION:The Brick Store Museum’s annual Holiday Showcase pays special homage to the region’s independent artists and creators. The Museum’s Holiday Showcase is a month-long event inside the Museum’s galleries that will feature the works of artists and fine crafters. The Holiday Showcase will open on Saturday\, November 26\, and end on Tuesday\, December 21. \n  \nDuring the entire month\, admission to the Museum will be free courtesy of sponsor H.M. Payson\, as a holiday gift to our communities. Visitors will be able to visit the Museum’s newest exhibitions and shop for locally-made gifts and artwork supporting both individual artists in York County and the Brick Store Museum’s educational mission in the community. \n  \nThe Museum also has an option for those not comfortable coming indoors during the pandemic – artwork and special pieces will be featured on the Museum’s social media feeds and via its new online store\, the Museum Mercantile\, which can be found at www.brickstoremuseum.org. \n  \nThe Holiday Showcase is open anytime the Museum is open (closed only Mondays). Over twenty regional artists have joined the showcase to show off paper art; jewelry; basketry; custom drawings; sculpture; fiber and textile works; photography\, handmade soaps and sachets; candles; accessories; wood carvings; and more.

DESCRIPTION:We are excited to announce our new exhibition\, The Great State of Illustration in Maine at the Brick Store Museum. \nIllustration is an art form with an ancestral home in Maine. We have a rich legacy of attracting notable illustrators to our state such as Dahlov Ipcar\, Ashley Bryan\, Barbara Cooney\, NC Wyeth\, Rockwell Kent\, and Francis Hamabe. \nFortunately\, this legacy continues. In fact\, we’d like to make the case that we’re currently living in a Golden Age of Illustration in Maine.  Illustration Institute believes that there are more illustrators living in our state\, either year round or seasonally\, than in any other time in history. \nAn opening reception on Thursday\, November 10 from 4pm – 7pm invites exhibiting illustrators\, friends of Illustration Institute and Museum Members to enjoy the incredible artworks with snacks and beverages. SUMMARY:All Souls' Walk & Fall Fair
DESCRIPTION:The Brick Store Museum’s All Souls’ Walk began its annual Hallowmas season tradition in 2004\, with a guided walk through neighboring Hope Cemetery. Now\, in its 19th year\, the event’s popularity continues! \nThe All Souls’ Walk invites participants into Hope Cemetery & Woods\, led by a knowledgeable tour guide\, to “meet” the ghosts of Kennebunk’s past and learn about the lives of residents that came before us. \nStories and experiences range from funny\, to sad\, to passionate\, to mystifying. Not too spooky\, it’s the perfect Halloween activity for the whole family. The tour lasts about 75 minutes\, and covers roughly a 1/2 mile through the cemetery. \nThis event is now SOLD OUT. \n\n\n\n+ \nThis event features the All Souls’ Fall Fair! \nAs participants are waiting to depart on their tours and return to the Museum afterward\, there is an opportunity for local artisans to exhibit and sell their works in an Autumn-themed fair that could become another Halloween staple for the community! SUMMARY:Panel Discussion: The Legacy of the '47 Fire
DESCRIPTION:The Fire of ’47 was a collection of over 200 fires that burned in the State of Maine from October 13th through October 27th in 1947. Together\, the fires consumed a quarter of a million acres of forest\, and wiped out nine entire towns\, making it one of the worst natural disasters in state history.
