SUMMARY:CPAA Winter Series: Visual Anthropology Intro (Session 1)
DESCRIPTION:Cape Porpoise Archaeological Alliance (CPAA) Winter Series Presents: Visual Anthropology & Archaeology  \nThe goal of this series is to elevate the discussion of local anthropology and archaeology to include current trends in the field that incorporate science and art. This series is created by the CPAA\, a professionally led initiative focused on the Archipelago of Cape Porpoise\, Maine. The partnership with the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust and the Brick Store Museum supports documentation and contextualizing the archaeology of the islands and intertidal zone threatened by global sea level rise. \n+ \nThis series will run in-person weekly on five Thursdays at 6PM starting February 23\, 2023\, at the Brick Store Museum’s Program Center\, 117 Main Street\, Kennebunk\, ME. \nParking is available on Main Street\, Dane Street and in the Town Hall parking lot. \n+ \nAdmission by donation is suggested to help support our speakers. DESCRIPTION:The Brick Store Museum’s annual Holiday Candlelight Stroll explores the stories and traditions of Kennebunk’s immigrant families in the 19th and 20th centuries. \nThe program runs on Saturday\, December 10 and Sunday\, December 11\, featuring vignettes of each family as participants tour through the Museum spaces.  Tours conclude in the Museum’s Program Center with holiday treats\, activities and live fiddle music by Paul and Sally Wells. The indoor tour departs every 15 minutes and lasts about 45 minutes. \nThis year\, different stories will be told on Saturday and Sunday evenings: \n\nSaturday\, December 10 will feature the stories of five families who immigrated in the 19th century from Portugal\, Ireland\, Syria\, Norway\, and Russia\nSunday\, December 11 will feature the stories of those who immigrated to town in the 20th century from Canada\, Italy\, Greece\, Austro-Hungary\, and England\n\nThe program concludes in the Museum’s Program Center\, where participants can enjoy live fiddle music by local duo Sally and Paul Wells\, activities highlighting traditions from the tour; and holiday treats to taste. \n+ \nRepresentatives (reenactors) from each family tell visitors about their personal stories and their holiday traditions\, many of whom came to Kennebunk to work in the mill industry. SUMMARY:Panel Discussion: The Legacy of the '47 Fire
DESCRIPTION:The Fire of ’47 was a collection of over 200 fires that burned in the State of Maine from October 13th through October 27th in 1947. Together\, the fires consumed a quarter of a million acres of forest\, and wiped out nine entire towns\, making it one of the worst natural disasters in state history. The fires burned from Bar Harbor (which was almost completely destroyed) to Kennebunkport and Goose Rocks Beach. 1947 became known as “The Year Maine Burned.” \nThe panel discussion “The Legacy of the ’47 Fire\,” will be presented on Tuesday\, October 18 at 6pm via Zoom.  \nThe panel includes representatives from the Maine Forest Service\, Kennebunk Fire-Rescue\, and local historians\, who will discuss various perspectives on the fire and its effects on today’s fire control and technology.  \n+ \nThe Museum is offering an accompanying take-out dinner as part of its Take Out Learning Dinners\, catered by For the Love of Food & Drink in Wells.  \nMenu Selections: \nSeasonal Garden Salad \nPot Roast OR Farmhouse Pie (Veggie Pot Pie) \nPeas with Pearl Onions \nMashed Potatoes \nGingerbread with Fresh Whipped Cream \n+ \nTICKETS: \nTickets for the presentation (only) are $5 per person ($3 for Museum Members); tickets for the Take-Out Dinner & Program are $30 ($25 for Museum Members). \nCLICK HERE TO RESERVE YOUR TICKETS>>
