SUMMARY:Irish Trio Fόdhla | Concerts in West K with Mousam River Music
DESCRIPTION: Sunday’s concert by Fodhla is on\, but we are keeping a close eye on the weather! \nThe Museum’s Concert Partner Mousam River Music Presents: \nThe popular Irish trio Fόdhla (FO-lah) kicks off the 2026 season of the long-running “Concerts in West K!” series. The concert will take place Sunday\, February 1\, from 3:00-5:00 pm\, in the Dane Street Program Center of the Brick Store Museum. \nBethany Waickman (guitar)\, Ellery Klein (fiddle)\, and Nicole Rabata (flute)\, are highly-respected members of the broad Boston-Portland acoustic music community. Their sound is firmly rooted in the traditional Irish melodies and ornamentation that fiddler Ellery Klein and flute player Nicole Rabata honed during years spent abroad in Ireland’s cities Cork\, Limerick\, and Ennis. Guitarist Bethany Waickman provides superb support to the fiddle and flute tunes. Her inventive\, tasteful harmonies and driving rhythm have been perfected through years of playing for contradances. \nThe Brick Store Museum is located at 117 Main Street\, Kennebunk\, adjacent to the Kennebunk Town Hall. SUMMARY:The Just History Walk
DESCRIPTION:The Just History Walk: Stories Between the Mousam and Kennebunk Rivers\nSaturday\, November 8\, 2025 | 12:30 – 6:00 pm \nBeginning at Rogers Pond Park\, 49 Water St\, Kennebunk \nEnding at First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church\, 114 Main St\, Kennebunk \nThe lower Kennebunk and Mousam River watershed region has provided people with homes and sustenance for more than ten thousand years. We know something about them from over 400 years of written history\, and through oral traditions and artifacts that date back much farther. But the historical narratives\, signs\, and portraits that we most commonly encounter represent only a small glimpse of the tapestry woven here in this place over the centuries. While the lives of sea captains and soldiers\, farmers and factory owners\, bankers and builders are made visible throughout town\, those of many others remain hidden from view. \nThe Just History Walk is not about the men traditionally credited with building the wealth reflected in the homes and businesses along Main Street and Summer Street. Rather\, it’s about bringing stories of people who also shaped this community but whose contributions have been erased to the foreground\, including: \n\nWabanaki people who inhabited this land for millennia \nPeople of African heritage who were kidnapped and transported here\nEnslaved people throughout the “New World” whose labor was the basis for much of the town’s wealth\n\nIn walking together\, we’ll meet: \nRamanascho ✭ Shepard Bourn ✭ Richard Hill ✭ Phillis ✭ Tom Bassett ✭ Lucy Nicolar ✭  Primus Goodale ✭ Salem Bourne ✭ Scipio Black ✭ Joseph Ranco ✭ and others \nAlong the route\, selected stories shared by presenters—together with performances\, artwork\, crafts\, and artifacts—will offer opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to reflect on both what we now know about the diverse community that lived here and what remains unknown. What do these gaps and silences tell us about how history has been told? \nAt the conclusion\, we will gather to collectively weave what we have gleaned and build connections over a meal that celebrates the ancient Indigenous roots of this community. Together\, we will confront the suffering created when land and people are treated as property\, and celebrate the resilience that persists when we honor our ties to land\, waterways\, wildlife\, and each other. \n  \nThis event is a collaboration between The Just History Project\, The Brick Store Museum\, and the Walks for Historical & Ecological Recovery (WHERE)\, a series convened by Atlantic Black Box. Other sponsors include First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church of Kennebunk and Octopus Books. This initiative is funded in part by the Mellon Foundation\, Morton-Kelly Charitable Trust\, Maine Humanities Council\, Maine Community Foundation\, Sewall Foundation\, and by generous donors. \n++ \nTO REGISTER\, please visit the WHERE WALKS website HERE>>\n  \n++ \n  \nSpecial Note on Museum Programs: \nThis program is not a place for intolerance or personal statement-making. The Museum is a space to listen\, explore\, and understand experiences other than our own. Participants who are unable to uphold these values are asked to simply refrain from attending.

They are sought-after teachers\, and have shared their craft with students at camps\, festivals\, and community music schools. \nTheir album\, At Long Last (2018)\, explores heartache\, wonder\, and joy\, expressed through the traditional music they love. \nLiz Faiella’s study of Irish fiddling\, training in classical violin\, and love of social dancing have shaped her musical approach. Liz is chair of the Folk Department at the Concord Community Music School in Concord\, NH\, where she teaches fiddle students and organizes the Music School’s Fall Fiddle Festival. She also is active as a YouTube creator\, sharing fiddle tunes\, tutorials\, and techniques far and wide. \nDan Faiella is a guitarist specializing in traditional Celtic music. Trained as an accompanist through years of playing for New England contradances and for Irish fiddlers\, he has performed at venues and festivals around the country with numerous traditional music groups. In his solo playing\, Dan’s fingerstyle arrangements of traditional songs and tunes draw extensively on techniques and ornamentation from traditional idioms beyond those directly related to the guitar\, such as Celtic harp-playing\, sean-nós singing\, and uilleann piping. Over many years of playing solo and collaboratively\, he has developed an ability to adapt and synthesize these sounds into the context of the unique arrangement capabilities of the guitar. \nJoin Liz and Dan in the museum’s Dane Street Program Center for a great afternoon of traditional Irish music! \n+++ \nTickets: $20 per person \nPurchase online prior to 2:00pm on Saturday\, June 7; after that time\, please purchase at the door. SUMMARY:Gerry O'Connor & Kevin McElroy (Concerts in West K!) NEW VENUE
DESCRIPTION:Gerry O’Connor\, one of the most celebrated Irish fiddlers of our time\, will appear in concert in Kennebunk\, Wednesday evening\, July 24\, at 7:30 p.m.\, presented by Mousam River Music.\n\nThe concert is part of the long-running “Concerts in West K!” series\, but will take place in the series’ new home in the Dane Street Program Center of the Brick Store Museum in downtown Kennebunk. The museum is at 117 Main Street in Kennebunk\, adjacent to the Town Hall\, and across the street from the Unitarian Church and town library. The Dane Street Program Center is directly behind the main museum building.\n\nO’Connor grew up in the town of Dundalk\, County Louth\, Ireland\, in a family of musicians\, dancers\, and singers. His mother\, Rose (née O’Brien) was a fiddler who taught him and his siblings the fiddle at home. His father\, Peter\, was a singer. As a young man\, O’Connor won numerous All-Ireland awards as both a solo artist and as a member of duos\, trios\, and bands. Playing with County Sligo fiddle master John Joe Gardiner in the 1970s was an important step in O’Connor developing his own fluid and lyrical fiddle style. He also credits his experience as a step-dancer in giving his music its rock-steady rhythm and lively pulse.\n\nJoining Gerry will be Portland guitarist and singer Kevin McElroy. For the past three decades McElroy has performed regularly with such luminaries as Seamus Connolly\, Brendan Tonra\, and Joe Burke. He and O’Connor were brought together by their shared love of fiddles and fiddle-making; they share a wealth of mutual inspirations and musical influences. O’Connor’s expressive melodies and McElroy’s tasteful accompaniment come together through a seamless bit of musical alchemy.\n\nThe concert will take place Friday evening\, June 21\, from 7:30-9:30 p.m.\, in the Dane Street Program Center of the Brick Store Museum\, at 117 Main Street in Kennebunk.\n\nThere is open seating for the concert on a first-come\, first-served basis. Admission is by $20.00 per person at the door.
