DESCRIPTION:Energy Conservation\, Retrofitting Old Homes \nThursday\, May 23 from 12pm – 1pm \n++ \nSummary: \nOne of the most challenging issues facing homeowners is how to make older or historic homes more energy efficient without sacrificing character and charm. This lecture presents a historic preservation perspective on insulation\, air sealing\, mechanical upgrades\, and other energy retrofit opportunities in your older home. Come away with a framework for making an old house more energy efficient\, and hear about how Historic New England has made significant energy improvements to its properties without damaging historic fabric. \nThis is a virtual event! There will be time for Q&A at the end of the presentation. \nJoin us in this fourth lecture in our monthly “Your Old House: And Other Preservation Stories” series. \nThis is a free event that will be hosted on Zoom. Register in advance here. \n++ \n \nPresenter:\nElizabeth Paliga\, Preservation Services Manager\, Northern New England\, Historic New England \nElizabeth joined Historic New England in 2021 as the Preservation Services Manager for Northern New England. She oversees forty privately-owned easement properties\, working with homeowners to answer questions about routine maintenance as well as review proposals for larger projects. She also engages with the cultural history of the region by researching the lives of the people who lived at these properties. \nElizabeth previously worked with local governments in Scotland to protect vulnerable properties from insensitive alteration. She holds a MSc in Architectural Conservation from the University of Edinburgh and two BAs\, in Archaeology and Architectural Studies\, from Boston University. \n  \n++ \nQuestions?
