Term: The Brick Store Museum’s Photography Contest begins July 12, 2016 and ends September 16, 2016 at 5:00 PM. By submitting an entry, each contestant agrees to the rules of the contest and states that they are the original artist of the photo.
Who may enter: Contest is open to individuals of all ages. Contest is void where prohibited by law.
How to enter: Each entry consists of an entry form and a single image. To enter, please visit www.brickstoremuseum.org /bsmphotocontest to print an entry form, or pick one up at the museum. The entry form requires information including your name, address, telephone number, email address, and photo caption. Please submit this form with your photograph. The categories for entry are:
1) Kennebunk, Maine – people, events, objects, or activities that are connected to the Kennebunk community at large and its heritage.
2) Travel – Locales, peoples, or activities in the United States or abroad that convey a sense of place.
3) Nature – Animals, plants, and landscapes; geological or climatological features.
4) Under 16 – photographs from photographers under the age of sixteen (16) years old.
Please enter only one category per photograph. You may enter up to three (3) photographs in all, to any category. High-quality scans of photographs taken on film are acceptable. Complete an entry form for each photograph submitted – missing information may result in photo entry rejection. Photographs must be in a .jpeg, .jpg, or .gif format. By entering the contest, entrants grant the Brick Store Museum perpetual license to display, reproduce, and create derivative works of entries for educational, promotional, exhibition, and archival purposes. Any reproduced photograph will include a photographer credit as feasible.
Entry Deadline: All entries must be received via email or in person at the museum by 5:00pm on September 6, 2016.
Judging: Judging will be conducted by three local artists who have volunteered their time on this panel. Category winners will be selected, one for each category. In addition, the grand prize winner will be chosen for best overall photograph. Every submitted photograph will appear on the Brick Store Museum’s website. At that time, visitors may email or stop into the museum to submit a vote for “Visitors’ Choice” award winner. Every winner receives a certificate. The winning photographs will be published on the Brick Store Museum’s website, as well as in the Brick Store Museum’s fall e-newsletter, and its Facebook page. All winners will have their work exhibited in an upcoming Brick Store Museum History Showcase.
Photographs: Photographs must have been taken within three years of the date of entry. Minor burning, dodging, color correction, hand tinting, and cropping is acceptable. Any other manipulated images must be submitted in the “Altered Images” category. Photographs that include sculptures, statues, paintings, and other works of art will be accepted as long as they do not constitute copyright infringement. When photographing the work of others, it must be as an object in its environment and not a full-frame close-up of another person’s art. The photograph must not, in the discretion of the Brick Store Museum, contain obscene, provocative, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable content.
