The Kennebunks, 1790-1860 March 30 - December 22, 2001 |
|
The exhibit celebrated the rich heritage of the Kennebunks and documented the region from the days of Native Americans, through the arduous settlement years and the subsequent colonial era. The display depicted artifacts dating back to Native American and settler conflicts of 1688-1760, to the prosperous Shipbuilding period of the 1800s. The Resort Development era, which coincided with the arrival of the train and the demise of the need for ships, brought the discovery of the region as a recreational haven for visitors and eventual residents. The exhibit spanned the first settlers and their struggles to the thriving contemporary communities of the Kennebunks today. |
