For the month of April, the Museum marked the 90th anniversary of Southern Maine Health and Homecare Services, an agency originally founded in 1909 as the Kennebunk Public Health Association. At that time, local woman Sarah Parson hired a nurse, Manetta Moore, for the town; she was paid $1,000 a year for her services. In 1924, Alice Gibson took over as the town nurse and held the position until she retired in 1964. Guest-curated by Sandra Armentrout, the exhibition featured photographs, books, news clippings and other memorabilia. Included was a life-size diorama depicting a "then-and-now" scene juxtaposing a hospital room from 1924 with a hospital room in 1999. |
