Faces of the Kennebunks by Portrait Photographer Liam Crotty

February 26 - May 3, 2008

This exhibition and related programming were sponsored by Kennebunk Savings Bank. Additional exhibition support was provided by the Museum's proud Business Partner; The Captain Lord Mansion.

The exhibition invited a look through the lens of local portrait photographer Liam Crotty to see the diversity and depth of character and talent found in the Kennebunks. Faces of the Kennebunks featured 23 color and black-and-white, large-format images that touched upon the contemporary fabric of the community—whether it was a popular teacher, longtime volunteer, Tony Award winner, or former NASCAR champion. Further enhancing the portraits were artifacts on loan from those photographed, adding three-dimensional components to the portrait groupings. Each treatment also included textual insight from Liam Crotty, brief biographical information, and a reflection from the subject on what the Kennebunks signified to him or her.

Represented in this broad cross-section of compelling imagery were Dan and Sarah Beard; Cecil Benson; Richard Bibber; Mary Lou Boucouvales; Nanci Grenier Boutet; Tom Bradbury; Joyce Butler; John Downing; Joe Foster; Mary Greely; Karl Hooper; Reverend Robert Howes; Sonny Hutchins; Richard McCabe; Mac McHale; Russell Nype; W. Robert Paine; Susan Falcone Plass; Ken Raynor; Mike and Sandy Severance; Joel Stevens; Matt Whitney; and Tom Wiley.
