Introducing Faces of the Kennebunks...

Faces of the Kennebunks by Portrait Photographer Liam Crotty invites audiences to look through the lens of this local portrait photographer to see the diversity and depth of character and talent found in the Kennebunks. The exhibition originally showcased 23 large-format (12” x 18”), color and black-and-white chromagenic prints that touch upon the contemporary fabric of the community. Represented in this broad cross-section of compelling imagery are many people you might know well or have otherwise encountered in your everyday life.

Whereas museum exhibitions often emphasize the contributions of residents from yesteryear, this show uniquely highlights a few of the many extraordinary individuals currently in our midst and reinforces the notion that history is always in the making. It is the people of today about whom future generations will wonder—much as we remain curious about our predecessors.

Further enhancing the portraits are artifacts personally chosen by the portrait subjects. Each treatment also includes a label divided into three sections. Look for these icons throughout the online exhibition:

=      Textual insight from the photographer, perhaps an anecdote about the photo shoot or the significance of the locale.

=      Brief biographical information about the subject of the portrait.

=      A reflection from the subject on what the Kennebunks signify to him or her. Each person was asked to complete the sentence, “The Kennebunks represent. . . .”

Navigate through the online exhibition by clicking on the "BACK" and "NEXT" buttons at the top of each page. For a list of all the portrait subjects, click on the "INDEX." Scroll over the photographs with your mouse to learn more about what is in each picture.
