Windows on the Past: Celebrating Kennebunk's National Register Historic District
Spring 2010 - ongoing

In 1963, Kennebunk became the first town in Maine to establish a historic district.  In 1974, the district received its designation as a National Register Historic District. A stunning tableau of Colonial, Federal, Greek Revival, Italianate, Queen Anne and Colonial Revival styles are featured, making this section of Kennebunk a real-life digest of the hallmarks of American architecture.

In this landmarks exhibition, dozens of vivid, contemporary images captured by local photographer Kevin Byron are paired with vintage photographs and artifacts from the Museum's collections to provide visitors with the full historical and architectural context of these signature structures, as well as the people who built and lived in them. Visitors can familiarize themselves with the architectural elements and styles that distinguish the district and can even construct scale models of some of the homes.

For Pastels Only:
Pastel Painters of Maine

11th International Juried Exhibition
May 22 - June 12, 2010

Organized by The Pastel Painters of Maine (PPOM), this show will feature a juried selection of approximately 60 stunning works submitted by artists internationally. Bill Creevy, PSA Master Pastelist and author of The Pastel Book, will judge the exhibit and award the prizes. Creevy's articles and reviews appear in American Artist, Pastel Journal, Art in America and Artist’s magazine. Among his many awards and honors are the National Art Master’s Award for Pastel Teaching sponsored by American Artist magazine; and the Max Beckman Teaching Fellowship from the Brooklyn Museum.

PPOM was established in 1999 by a group of southern Maine artists interested in soft pastels. The mission of PPOM is to promote the medium of soft pastel, to unite local and regional artists, and to heighten the public’s awareness of the medium. Since its founding, membership has grown to over 170 with members from throughout the United States and Canada.
