Making History: A Mini-Exhibition by the Students of STRETCH BEYOND

The Brick Store Museum is pleased to have once again worked with MSAD 71’s  Stretch Beyond Program in offering a multi-week course entitled, "Travel Back in Time" for 1st-3rd graders. The students have learned about history and museums via a variety of projects, which included making butter, clay buttons and marbles, cross-stitching a sampler, painting floor cloths, playing Colonial Era games, and creating displays for Making History, a mini-exhibition showing that history is being made every day. Making History incorporates personal items that each student has selected as being special to him/her and that could appear in a museum 100 years from now.  An opening reception awarding these "junior curators" will take place at 4pm on April 12th at the Museum.
The exhibition will remain on view at the Museum through April 21 and then be on view at the Kennebunk Elementary School Library for a week.

Kennebunk's Big Leaguers exhibition

The Brick Store Museum hits a home run with this exhibition on the two major league baseball players who have called Kennebunk home: "Colby Jack" Coombs (1882-1957) and his nephew Bobby Coombs (1908-1991). Kennebunk's Big Leaguers brings these players to life through rare images, newspaper clippings, video reminiscences, vintage baseball memorabilia, and never-before-seen personal ephemera. Visitors experience the exhibition by literally "rounding the bases" to learn about these men as Kennebunkers, college players, big leaguers, and also as coaches with university baseball stadiums named for each of them.

Join us for an "Opening Day" peanuts-and-cracker jack reception on Sunday, July 8 from noon to 4 PM at the Museum.
