Pale vertical bands, likely due to the paint intrinsically reacting to the original preparatory layer
Webber initially thought she would not be able to reverse the pale banding seen throughout the painting. She was pleasantly surprised that—in this case—the process of consolidation also made the pigments appear more saturated. While the banding has not entirely disappeared, it has lightened considerably.
