Peggy Bacon lived in Cape Porpoise, Maine, for twenty years and received national attention for her drawings, paintings, etchings and embroidery. Her work frequently included landscapes, caricature and the humorous. She illustrated more than 80 books, 18 of which she also authored.

In 1975, the Smithsonian American Art Museum mounted a retrospective exhibition in her honor. The Portland Museum of Art holds more than 50 of Bacon's works in its collection.

Mrs. Betty Joyce donated this painting to The Brick Store Museum. The building depicted was the donor's home.
