REAL Wild Things to Visit Museum Sept. 15th

REAL Wild Things iconOn Saturday, September 15 at 11 AM and again at noon, naturalists from The Center for Wildlife will bring real wild things to the Museum's campus for this family program to tie in with our ongoing Wild Things exhibition. Live Maine raptors and reptiles--as well as interactive displays--invite comparison among these animals and their folk art counterparts but also provide a lens for exploring issues of ecology, habitat preservation and wildlife conservation.

This is your chance to see a red-tailed hawk, barred owl, corn snake, and turtles up close!  This special family program is offered free of charge with donations gratefully accepted; no advance reservations needed. The Museum's galleries will also be open that day from 10 AM  to 1 PM.

Made possible by a grant from the Virginia Hodgkins Somers Foundation..

Eminent Mainers Lecture Rescheduled for Sept. 19th

Douglas Stover and Eminent Mainers

The popular Views from Within lecture series continues! Join us on Wednesday, September 19 at 7 PM for the second in this year's series of three programs to be presented by the Kennebunkport Historical Society and The Brick Store Museum. Our guest speaker is Arthur Douglas Stover, the author of the recently-released book, Eminent Mainers: Succinct Biographies of Thousands of Amazing Mainers, Mostly Dead, and a Few People from Away Who Have Done Something Useful Within the State of Maine. The Nonantum's dining room opens at 5:30PM for those wishing to have dinner prior to the evening program.

The lecture is offered free of charge, with donations gratefully accepted. No reservations are required. Copies of Eminent Mainers will be on sale for $20 plus tax (checks, cash or VISA/MC accepted) for the book signing to follow the lecture.

Made possible with support from the Nonantum Resort.
Shipbuilding Odyssey Returns on Sept. 29th!
Shipbuilding Odyssey icon
Calling all kids, parents and grandparents! Shipbuilding Odyssey: A History Workshop for Kids & Adults returns on Saturday, September 29.  This intergenerational, family-oriented, one-day event explores the shipbuilding heritage of the Kennebunks.

Begin the day hearing about life in the Kennebunks' many 19th-century shipyards and what it took to build the vessels that eventually sailed trade routes spanning the globe. Create your very own Kennebunk-built ship and sing sea shanties. A special, narrated trolley excursion to various historical shipbuilding sites along the Kennebunk River provides insight into this area's rich past. Conclude the day by trial "launching" your model ship in the river!  Space is limited and is first-come, first-served. Pre-registration is required by September 22.
