We're a busy place these days! Nearly 300 people joined us for the combination of the All Souls' Walk and All Souls' Dinner over Halloween weekend. Another 127 visitors turned out last Saturday for a fabulous presentation by Penobscot Tribal Elder Butch Phillips demonstrating the making and use of a traditional birch bark canoe. And over these past two weeks, we've welcomed nearly 200 third-graders on field trips...it's always enlightening to view the Museum through their eyes! A few reminders: We still have room in our genealogy workshop coming up on Saturday, November 20th; give us a call asap to register. If you're itching to get a jump on your holiday shopping, don't forget the Museum Shoppers' Day happening in S. Portland on Saturday, November 20th. We'll also have a presence at the Prelude Crafts Fair being held at Consolidated School in Kennebunkport on Saturday, December 4th, 9AM-3PM.
Finally, we wish you a happy Thanksgiving. We're thankful for you and for your sustained interest and support for the Museum.
Sincerely,
The Brick Store Museum

Story Times Return December 1st and 8th

With our In the Maine Stream exhibition as the backdrop, we are pleased to offer two special story times--on December 1st and December 8th, both at 10AM--for our youngest guests.
Bring your favorite blanket and gather 'round to listen to charming storybooks--each with a canoe, paddling, or Native American theme--and then have a chance to explore the exhibition. There'll even be a chance to make a simple canoe-related craft to take home! Young readers can also take home themed booklists.
Free and great fun for caregivers and toddlers, it's the perfect introduction to the Museum! Adult supervision required.
Made possible by the Museum's Education Committee and a grant from the Virginia Hodgkins Somers Foundation. |

Set sail--virtually, that is--with 29-year-old Edith Barry on the White Star Line's S. S. Adriatic! The Brick Store Museum's illustrious founder was a world traveler who kept wonderfully detailed records of her journeys across the globe. If you sign up to join Edith on this virtual journey, you'll receive daily updates from her actual travel journals, plus photographs she took and sketches she drew to chronicle her impressions of people and places. TRANSITIONS
by Executive Director
Tracy Baetz and the
Board of Trustees
In November 2003, I began an incredibly journey as the executive director of the Brick Store Museum. Today, almost exactly seven years later, that journey has come to an end. My husband has accepted an exciting new position that will have us relocating to the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area. This career move offers him many of the same types of challenges and opportunities for creativity and professional growth that I found so appealing in coming here to Maine, so I share in his enthusiasm for what our future holds.
