Collage blockDid you help our membership grow?  Thanks to Green Mountain Transplants, Inc. of Arundel, we'll be planting nearly 300 flower bulbs to represent the number of memberships initiated or renewed between January 1 and October 1 of this year!  Look for the stunning results to sprout next spring!

In the meantime, cast your eyes on down the page to see what we have in store for you these last 2 months of the year!

Picture Yourself at the Museum

Picture Yourself at the Museum sample imagesPicture Yourself at the Museum on Saturday, November 7th (anytime from 10AM to 1PM)! We're running a special tie-in with the Museum's Salon Style exhibition of fine art from the 1830s to the 1920s.  Check out the exhibition and learn a bit about early itinerant painters. Then, fashion yourself for a 19th-century "portrait sitting" using period costumes and props from the Museum's educational collections.

We'll take your photograph and, through the wonders of digital technology, make it look like a painted work of art (see samples pictured here) before mailing it back to you in a handsome photo folio. Makes for a great memento of the exhibition and/or an unusual gift for the holidays! Photos are $10 apiece (individuals or family groups) on a first-come first-served basis, with all proceeds to benefit the Museum.

Made possible by the Museum's Education Committee and a grant from the Virginia Hodgkins Somers Foundation.
Free Screening of New Documentary

Soul of a PeopleOn Thursday, November 12th at 7PM at the Kennebunk Free Library, the Museum and library are jointly hosting a free screening of an important new two-hour documentary from the Smithsonian Channel about the legacy of the Great Depression-era Federal Writers' Project: Soul of a People: Writing America's Story

Filmed entirely in high definition, the documentary features interviews with a diverse group of leading authors, poets, and historians who provide witty and heartbreaking insights into the Federal Writers' Project.
Patchwork Story Times

Patchwork Story TimeWith our Quilts exhibition as the backdrop, we're offering a special story time series for our youngest guests.  Come to one, two or all three:  Wednesdays, December 2nd, 9th and 16th at 10AM at the Museum!

Bring your favorite blanket (or quilt!) and gather 'round to listen to charming storybooks, each with a quilt theme, and then have a chance to explore the exhibition. There'll even be a chance to make a simple yet adorable quilt-related craft!

Young readers can also pick up quilt-themed storybook lists to continue their reading at home. Free and great fun for toddlers and caregivers alike, it's the perfect introduction to the Museum! Adult supervision required.

Autumn is here, and things are going strong at the Museum. The extensive structural renovations on our four Main Street buildings were completed by summertime, and we have a fresh look and feel. I hope you have had an opportunity to stop in to see the results--whether you've been participating in specific programs like Preservation Station, History Camp and All Souls' Week, or experiencing our newest exhibitions on vintage postcards, 19th-century quilts, and more.
