It's time to THINK SPRING. If snow-filled driveways and chilly temperatures have kept you hibernating in recent weeks, stay indoors no longer! In addition to our exhibitions, you'll see we also have a whole host of upcoming activities to draw you on down to the museum. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Artist David B. Wiggins to Speak on March 13
Presented in association with The Downing Real Estate Agency, Inc., the Museum is pleased to host renowned New England itinerant artist David B. Wiggins for an evening lecture at the Museum's Program Center, located at 4 Dane Street, on Thursday, March 13 at 7PM. Entitled, "The Itinerant Artist: Then & Now," Wiggins' lecture will begin with a brief history of period decoration in New England, focusing on the early to mid 19th-century.
In addition to personally designing period interiors chronicled in the pages of Decorator Showcase and Classic American Homes and featured in museums nationwide, Wiggins has considerable experience in restoring historical residences. He'll round out his remarks by highlighting past projects, offering anecdotal and practical insight into working with old houses, and sharing details on his latest endeavor: the restoration of Kennebunk's own Storer Mansion. Lecture admission is by suggested donation of $5/person. |

Intergenerational Workshop Coming in April
You asked; we listened! Our workshop, "Working Backwards: Exploring the Art of Reverse Painting on Glass" was originally run in 2007 just for kids, but adults were so impressed that we're bringing it back on Saturday, April 19th, 9AM-noon as an intergenerational, hands-on program for participants ages 7 to 107.
Reverse painting on glass is an interesting and popular art form dating back many centuries, frequently appearing as miniatures or as decorative inlays on pieces such as clocks and mirrors. The artist's "canvas" is the glass itself, and the artist works in reverse. Fine details are applied first. Layer by layer, the image fills in, with the background painted last. Participants will view examples from the Museum's collections and will then be able to choose from five different designs--based upon actual Brick Store Museum artifacts!--to create their very own, framed reverse painting on glass.
Pre-registration is required by April 12th. Cost is $15/person ($12 each for Museum members). Click HERE to download and print the registration form (PDF format, 353k).
Made possible by a grant from The Virginia Hodgkins Somers Foundation.

Faces of the Kennebunks exhibition
Come see the show publicized in newspapers across the state and already experienced by hundreds of people.
It's FACES OF THE KENNEBUNKS by Portrait Photographer Liam Crotty. Explore the diversity and depth of character and talent found in the Kennebunks through 23 large-format portraits of contemporary residents. How many do you recognize? Enhancing the portraits are artifacts on loan from those photographed, adding three-dimensional components to the portrait groupings. Each treatment also includes textual insight from photographer Liam Crotty, brief biographical information, and a reflection from the subject on what the Kennebunks signify to him or her.
On view through May 3, 2008, the show and its related programming are generously sponsored by Kennebunk Savings Bank, with additional exhibit support provided by the Museum's proud business partner, The Captain Lord Mansion. | |
