While the winter months do tend to be a bit quieter in terms of visitation, they're no less busy overall. Last week the kids we hosted for our February Vacation Workshop painted with pastels, built trolley dioramas and sewed log cabin quilts. Volunteers have been getting a jump on various projects in our archives. And behind the scenes we've been inventorying, photographing and computerizing our collections; planning our next round of exhibitions; and preparing for the events described below.

Museum a Venue for Winterfest
 Made possible by the Kennebunk Merchants Association and the Kennebunk Recreation Department, Kennebunk's 1st Annual Winterfest on Saturday, February 27th includes a variety of activities throughout Kennebunk's downtown area, with snowshoe races, carriage rides, a craft fair, farmers' market, winter sports gear swap, bake sale, soup-tasting contest, and more!
The Museum is pleased to take part by being the starting and ending point for the Children's Scavenger Hunt (10AM-1PM). And of course, the Museum's exhibits are all open to the public that day as well. It's perfect chance to catch our Pennies to Ride exhibition! |

Documentary Screening: Soul of a People
 On Thursday, March 4th at 7PM in the Kennebunk Free Library's Reading Room, the Museum and library are jointly hosting a free screening of an important new two-hour documentary from the Smithsonian Channel about the legacy of the Great Depression-era Federal Writers' Project: Soul of a People: Writing America's Story.
Filmed entirely in high definition, the documentary features interviews with a diverse group of leading authors, poets, and historians who provide witty and heartbreaking insights into the Federal Writers' Project.

"Worthy Wednesday" Dinner to Benefit Museum
Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with the Museum and show us your green!
Wednesday, March 17th, offered 6 to 9PM
 Help the Museum simply by enjoying a dinner of "native Maine cuisine with a bold fusion flair" at One Dock in Kennebunkport on St. Patrick's Day!
Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has hailed the restaurant as among his favorites in Maine, and it's sure to become one of yours, too. Enjoy signature cocktails, innovative flavors, fresh local seafood and produce, $5 selected small plates, and sublime desserts off the main menu.

Museum Welcomes New Trustee
We're pleased to welcome Michael Montembeau to our Board of Trustees. Montembeau is filling the unexpired term of a former trustee through June of this year and will then be nominated for a full three-year term at our 2010 Annual Members' Meeting.
Montembeau is a Mainer who returned to the state and settled in Kennebunk with his family in 2006. Montembeau is a partner in a local law firm specializing in intellectual property law. Prior to his legal career, he worked as a geologist and environmental engineer with the U.S. EPA and Halliburton.
Montembeau has previously served on numerous boards, including Harrington Memorial Hospital, Community Bike Coalition, Southbridge Planning Board, and the Central Massachusetts Planning Commission. | |
