Hello! Labor Day will be fast upon us. As you savor the last unofficial days of summer, why not include The Brick Store Museum in your plans? On the heels of our sparkling Annual Members' Meeting in June, our Connecting Generations 2006 Capital Campaign is well underway...for more on that, read below! With an exciting summer almost behind us, we are already gearing up for a busy fall and are looking forward to seeing you. ![]() Sincerely, The Brick Store Museum
The Brick Store Museum is literally going to the dogs this Saturday, August 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tying in with the Museum’s ongoing Camp Maine: Rustic Furniture & Accessories, 1860- 1940 exhibition and in the spirit of all the classic dogs associated with traditional Maine camps, the Museum is turning the spotlight on canine companions for this free event generously sponsored by Kennebunk Veterinary Hospital. Your own four-footed pals are welcome on leashes to enjoy the camaraderie of other pets and their owners in the Museum’s courtyard. The Museum will be offering souvenir "family" photos shot digitally with a vintage, rustic Maine camp scene as a backdrop and presented in handsome photo folders to commemorate the exhibition and the event. A $10-per-photo donation benefits the Museum. Plenty of water, a wading pool, and dog treats will be provided. As a special addition to the day, the Animal Welfare Society of West Kennebunk’s Mobile Adoption Team will be on hand at the Museum to introduce visitors to many wonderful AWS dogs available for adoption. COME! And you might just discover your new best friend! There will also be collection boxes available for donations to the shelter. Particularly needed are the following:
In June, the Museum publicly launched its first capital campaign in more than 13 years. The Connecting Generations 2006 Capital Campaign has an ambitious goal of $1.5 million. While the museum as an institution is celebrating its 70th birthday this year, our buildings are actually approaching 200 years old. With a successful campaign, the Museum will become a fully functional 1800s structure with a robust endowment sustaining a 21st- century mission. For an endeavor that is so important to our present and to our future, we're pleased to announce that we have a brand new section of our website devoted exclusively to the Capital Campaign. Designed in-house, this website has several components that will help you share in the excitement of Connecting Generations as--with your help--we move closer and closer to our goal:
Come see the exhibition that WCSH6's Bill Green said
was "spot on" when he visited us in June: Camp Maine: Rustic Furniture & Accessories, 1860- 1940 is a trip down memory lane showcasing woodland Maine at its finest. Highlights include a 17- foot canoe from the 1920s, an early Maine-made sled used in rescues on Mount Washington, impossibly delicate bentwood twig furniture ranging in size from dolls’ chairs to oversized rockers, an outhouse door and classic “two-seater,” vintage signage advertising everything from $14 lake cabin rentals to trading post wares, “weird wood” souvenir tankards, intricately woven creels, camp paintings, and colorful arrays of early hand-tied fly fishing lures. The exhibition continues through November 18, so come find out what all the buzz is about (and it's not mosquitoes or black flies)!
Our friendly moose sculpture in the Maine camp exhibit won't be nameless much longer. The "Name- Our-Moose" contest closes on August 19. Will it be Andy? Jo-Jo? Kenney? Murgatroyd? Hurry and get your entry in. The winner receives an appropriately “moose-y” prize, and the winning entry will be made into a nameplate placed by the moose for the duration of the Camp Maine: Rustic Furniture & Accessories, 1860-1940 exhibition.
