We're calling our April 2008 e-newsletter "The Community Issue." You'll be reading about a few upcoming activities of our very own, but equally important to note below are the things The Brick Store Museum is doing this spring in collaboration with others for results bigger than the sum of their parts. We're also in the final weeks of FACES, an unique exhibition showcasing contemporary community members. Plus, we have our Business Partners to thank for the first year of their extraordinary community-mindedness in support of the Museum's mission. Finally, read about a very special woman who has been volunteering at the Museum for more than two decades. It all just goes to show that the Museum and the community are inseparable; you can't have one without the other.
Sincerely,
The Brick Store Museum |

Agreeable Situations Symposium - May 10
In 1987, a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities made possible an unprecedented study of southern Maine's contributions to the social, cultural, and economic history of America in the period 1780-1830. The Brick Store Museum, Maine Historical Society, Old York Historical Society and the Saco Museum joined forces to produce a definitive catalogue, entitled Agreeable Situations, and an exhibition by the same name.
Now--21 years later--it's "Agreeable Situations revisited," and the original principals have reunited to organize and present on Saturday, May 10 at the Maine Historical Society a day-long symposium in Portland on the very themes that launched Agreeable Situations into the spotlight more than two decades ago.
CLICK HERE for the schedule of distinguished speakers, plus all the details and registration information. Current Brick Store Museum members receive the special member rate of $55 and can save even more if registering before April 25th. | |

Inside Spotlight...
"A Volunteer's Perspective"
by Museum volunteer Linnea Young

Linnea Young is the Museum's longest, continuously-serving volunteer and each week helps with everything from mailings to guiding visitors through the Museum. Here is her story. . .
" I have been a volunteer at the Brick Store Museum for 23 years, ever since I moved back to Maine in 1985.
I grew up in Bangor and have loved history since I took four years of Latin and studied ancient history in high school under some outstanding teachers. I learned about 'the glory that was Greece and the grandeur that was Rome.'
