Greetings!
It's almost Independence Day weekend AND the
Museum's 70th anniversary! When Edith Cleaves
Barry first opened the doors to The Brick Store
Museum on July 1, 1936 she was creating quite a
legacy. Come celebrate this milestone in our history
this
Saturday, July 1st!

You're invited...
We're your museum, so you're invited
to help
celebrate the Brick Store Museum's 70th anniversary
this Saturday, July 1st, 10 am - 2 pm.
Come by at 10 a.m. and catch a brief ceremony with
a special proclamation from the Town of Kennebunk
(July 1st is officially being named Brick Store
Museum Day!), a presentation to the Museum from
Kennebunk Savings Bank's Community Investment
Program, and the unveiling of one very special
postmark!
But the fun continues until 2 pm. Read on for all the

Special Commemorative Postmark
In honor of the day, the Kennebunk Post Office is
setting up a temporary postal facility at the Museum
on July 1st to issue a special commemorative
postmark featuring the 1825 brick building that
gives the Museum its name.
Postal personnel will be at the Museum from 10 a.m.
to 2 p.m. and will apply the commemorative postmark
at no charge to any item bearing proper first-class
postage (and stamps are available for purchase).
What's more, we'll also have the Museum's
signature
postage
stamp on hand and available on truly
special Brick Store Museum souvenir envelopes
complete with the commemorative postmark for just
$2 apiece (3 for $5) These make for great collector's
items or gifts.
For collectors and those who can't be present
at the event, the cancellation is available via mail
order request by sending a properly stamped
envelope or postcard for cancellation along with a
larger envelope with adequate postage and an
address for return. Requests must be postmarked no
later than August 1, 2006, and sent to: Pictorial
Postmarks, Brick Store Museum 70th Anniversary
Station, Postmaster, 3 Post Office Square,
Kennebunk, ME 04043-9998.

Birthday cake, ice cream, balloons and more!
Our 70th birthday celebration wouldn't be complete
without the traditional birthday cake, ice cream,
popcorn and balloons, so come for your helping of
family fun!
You'll even have a chance to write birthday greetings
to the Museum on an oversized card.
While you're here, don't miss our popular Camp
Maine: Rustic Furniture & Accessories, 1860-
1940 exhibition, plus an all-new display on the
history of the Museum entitled, A Legacy of
Lords. Also available will be behind-the-scenes
tours and a peek inside the Museum’s courtyard stalls
housing vintage fire equipment and carriages.

When the Museum opened on July 1, 1936,
- the population of Kennebunk was approximately
3,300
- gasoline was 11 cents a gallon
- a first-class postage stamp was 3 cents
- Franklin Delano Roosevelt was President
- LIFE magazine made its debut
- the summer Olympics were held in Berlin
A lot has changed since then, but we hope you'll
agree that the Museum is the place to be on
July 1st, so we look forward to seeing you Saturday!
Sincerely,

The Brick Store Museum
